The study of the ancient necropolis of Saqqara is not only done in the field, but also through objects in museums. These can hold important information about tombs and their owners. Egyptian antiquities were shipped out of the country on a large scale during the nineteenth century by private collectors. Such collections often formed the basis of European and American museums.
