Adolf Klasens (1917-1998)Dutch Egyptologist
Klasens studied Egyptology at Groningen and Leiden and joined the Leiden Museum as librarian in 1945. During study leave in Cambridge, where he studied demotic, he established contact with Emery, with whom he excavated the archaic tombs at Saqqara from 1953-1956. Klasens became curator, then from 1959-1979 director of the Leiden Museum. He excavated at Abu Roash (1957-1959) and in Nubia (1962-1964), where the Dutch contribution to the international salvage campaign was rewarded with the donation of the Taffeh temple. Klasens was also professor of Egyptology in Leiden from 1960-1979.
